As experts in the industry, we know that homeowners have a lot of questions regarding when and why to replace their windows. This can be confusing! How can you truly know when your current windows have seen their best days and are ready for replacements? How can you determine what type of replacement windows in Hawaii are right for your home and budget?
When you work with our team here at Discount Windows & Doors, we make it easy: if it needs to be replaced, we’ll be honest and explain why. If it can be repaired, we will advise you. Simple! In the spirit of keeping our clients informed and watchful for signs that it may be time to reach out to us, we’ve created this easy Top 4 List of Reasons to Replace Your Windows:
- Quit being difficult!
Are your windows difficult to open? Are they nearly impossible? Or, when (or if) you do manage to open them—do they sometimes come off their tracks or slam shut? If any of this is true, please call our team. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. A window that consistently comes off its track or is stuck/jammed is a window at risk for cracking the glass and breaking your frame.
- Money talks!
If you have noticed your energy bills climbing and nothing at home has changed, your windows could be warped or rotting, allowing air to leak out from indoors. Have you invested in draft stoppers (or, be honest—have you used your hand towels or your children’s stuffed animals?) or caulking, weather-stripping, and plastic wrap to keep the conditioned air inside? These are only temporary, partial fixes for windows no longer doing their job. Even 1/16 of an inch gap can leak as much air as missing an entire brick in your siding! Think about how hard your air conditioner has to work to keep your home cool with a leak like this.
- Constant Maintenance = time un-well spent
Windows are, obviously, exposed to the elements. Here on Hawaii Island, that means rain, sun, and salty air. Over time, these things can degrade cheaply made or aging material. Your once-beautiful windows (which used to be new and fresh and nicely painted) now seem to require constant sanding, priming, and painting each year or every season. Do they always seem dirty? It’s possible the glass coating has worn off. Do your windows seem blurry or warped? The sun may have degraded the quality of the glass over the years—which is not repairable.
- Damp is not Good
Is moisture or water accumulating in your windows? This could create mold—and that’s not an issue anyone wants to have. Windows with leaks or broken seals allow for drastic temperature fluctuations, which lead to unwanted moisture and potentially costly issues. If your windows show moisture build-up, call us.
Our staff would love to work with you and help you figure out if any of your windows need replacement, or if a simple repair is all you need. Give us a call and we’ll figure it out together!
